De Swatch Group Brands op Baselworld 2013 (met inbegrip van Harry Winston)

De krachtige aanwezigheid van de Swatch Group aanwezig als nooit tevoren op was Baselworld 2013 , waarbij een groter deel van de gerenoveerde hal 1.0, de meest prestigieuze gebied aan de show voor de meerderheid van de 19 horlogemerken, die zowat elk segment van overspannen de horloge-industrie.

Daarnaast heeft het bedrijf, dat ook eigenaar is uurwerk fabrikanten en retailmerken, gastheer van een apart museum-kwaliteit tentoonstelling in hal 2.0 voor de Swatch horloges; het merk dat het meest verantwoordelijk voor enorme succes van het bedrijf is geweest.

De nieuwste merk onder een enorme paraplu Swatch Group, Harry Winston , had nog steeds zijn eigen ruimte in hal 1.1, zoals de $ 1000000000 overname vond plaats in maart goed te laat voor Harry Winston worden opgevouwen in het andere bedrijf bedrijven (misschien volgend jaar).

Hieronder zijn enkele van nieuwe releases van de zeven merken in de groep die ik de kans om te bezoeken tijdens de achtdaagse beurs gehad. Ik opgenomen Harry Winston als het bedrijf nieuwe CEO, Nayla Hayek , werd vrijdag bekendgemaakt.

Blancpain Carrousel, Minute Repeater en Chronograph
De Zwitserse luxe horloge merk heeft een volledig mechanisch horloge dat een minuut vliegen carrousel (vergelijkbaar met een tourbillon) en een minuut repeater met een flyback chronograaf combineert gecreëerd.

Voor de minuut repeater, Gong de bladen van de kathedraal wrap anderhalf keer rond de beweging om het geluid uit te stoten. De transmissie wordt geoptimaliseerd door de vaststelling van de gong in de zaak, die het volume en de helderheid verhoogt. Een vliegende gouverneur vermindert de achtergrond geluid van de beweging.

De pusher de chronograaffunctie de flyback of instant-herstartfunctie (historisch door piloten) zich op 4:00 en kan de drager een tijdmeting opnieuw op terwijl een eerste meting wordt uitgevoerd.

Het horloge wordt geleverd in een rood goud 45 mm geval met een hoofdstuk ring, op 30 minuten en uur-markers in grand feu email. De open wijzerplaat en saffierglas case-back biedt uitgebreide uitzicht van dit complex apparaat.

Breguet Classique Chronometrie 7727
Verkrijgbaar in roze of wit goud, is het horloge uitgerust met de nieuwe in-house kaliber 574DR, die een balans frequentie van 10Hz.thus heeft, het verbeteren van de tijd houden prestaties van de balans en de lente. Het is uitgerust met een dubbele balans lente, pallet hefboom en te ontsnappen wiel, allen in speciaal geprepareerde silicium. Het resultaat is een regelvermogen overeenkomt met ongeveer 830 microwatt. Ondanks de hoge frequentie heeft een energiereserve van 60 uur.

Echter, Breguet aldus de belangrijke vernieuwing van dit model is het gebruik van magnetische scharnieren, die niet alleen controleert de negatieve effecten van magnetisme in een horloge, maar gebruikt de magnetische kracht op het zwenkbare, rotatie en stabiliteit van het saldo personeel verbeteren.

De wijzerplaat toont een off-center hoofdstuk van uren en minuten, kleine seconde om 12 uur, een gangreserve indicator om 5 uur en een tiende van een seconde indicator om 1 uur met een gepatenteerde lichtgewicht silicium hand met lage inertie die geen invloed heeft op de balans. De pare-chute is zichtbaar op 02:00, zowel als een herinnering aan AL Breguet's 1790 uitvinding en het uurwerk slanker te maken.

De wijzerplaat is-motor draaide in zes patronen: "Geneva golven" in het centrum, een zoolspijker patroon voor de kleine seconde, zonnestralen op de wijzerplaat en chevrons tiende-of-a-seconde voor de power-reserve indicator. De uren hoofdstuk gearceerd, terwijl een barleycorn patroon siert de buitenrand. De handen zijn in gepolijst staal met de Breguet geopende tip, terwijl het geval toont delicate fluting.

Dit nieuwe uurwerk verenigt de klassieke regulator display met een officieel gecertificeerde handmatig opwinden chronometer beweging.

De dominante centrale positie op de gelakte zilver-Graine wijzerplaat is de blauwe minutenwijzer met zijn gepolijst oog. Op de centrale as boven en onder de minutenweergave kleiner uur seconden weergegeven.

De Glashütte Original panorama datumaanduiding wordt geplaatst op 3:00. De datum verandering vindt plaats om middernacht. Van 6 in de ochtend tot 6 in de avond, de kleine cirkel in het gebied van het uur beeldscherm is wit; van 6 uur tot 6 uur is het zwart. Dit uurwerk wordt omlijst door een 42 mm gepolijst geval in rood goud of wit goud versie.

Het horloge wordt aangedreven door het kaliber 58-04, waarbij de precieze coördinatie van minuten en seconden handen toelaat. Een tweede-zero-stop-mechanisme maakt het gemakkelijk voor de gebruiker om de exacte tijd in te stellen. Wanneer het opwinden van de kroon, de tijdweergave is gestopt, de tweede hand springt naar nul en blijft daar. Tegelijkertijd wordt de minutenwijzer ook naar de volgende volle minuut index. Wanneer men de kroon om de tijd slingert, de minutenwijzer rust altijd alleen op de volle minuut indices. Dit verschaft de correcte verhouding van het weergegeven seconden en minuten. Een gangreserve display op 09:00 geeft de energie die nog in het handmatig opwinden beweging.

Nixon Baha Compass

urther to my last Post where I looked at some Military style models. I mentioned in passing the Nixon Unit 40 which I thought might be a consideration IF the digits and dial contrast was readable in all light situations. I liked the fact it was a 40mm diameter model as this would fit the smaller wrist comfortably, but I still have reservations on that display.
However I also spotted the relatively new Dixon Baha which is a varient of the Nixon SS and 40 series, specially outfitted for the outdoor enthusiast, so I though I'd better check it out.

I have to say right away that I do like the look of it, though somewhat disappointed by the physical size of this model – at 50mm diameter it is one BIG watch! However there is a trade off in that one of the added functions over the SS or 40 series is the inclusion of a Digital Compass. It also has an LED flashlight at the lower left of the dial, which is a surprisingly useful gadget. The other main difference is the strap which is a heavy duty nylon & velcro fast wrap strap, a type I've always liked as it's so easy to use and usually very comfortable.

I'm also informed that this model has an increased contrast digital dial array, and that does interest me as this was my major concern on the previous models, so it may be that my concern could be solved, though I would still have to see one on my wrist to tell.
The complete function set as follows – positive or negative digital (high contrast stated on the spec), Time of Day (12 hour or 24 hour), Seconds, Day/Date, Calendar range from 2005-2105, Dual time, Alarm, Chronograph, Timer and Thermometer with an external sensor (in Fahrenheit or Celsius), LED flashlight and Compass.
The case is polycarbonate which is as tough as anything and the stainless pushers are well shrouded to prevent damage. A domed hardened mineral crystal, 100m Water Resistance and a brushed stainless steel case back. The strap is 24mm wide on a 32mm wrist cuff held with stainless steel screw pins and it has a solid stainless steel roll bar buckle, so very outdoorsy, all of which I like.

The fast wrap

The Compass is the type that points to the arrow @12 on the molded fixed bezel and gives you the bearing angle in degrees (in 1° segments) on the main dial area and on the upper display area it gives the Cardinal direction NNW, ENE and so on. The compass also has a declination setting so you can set for your area and there is a Compass calibration sequence similar to most of these digital compass models. Note that it's not the most accurate of compasses at +/- 10° but it's useful and in practice is perhaps more accurate than the error allowance would indicate. I have other compass models that are quoted with error allowances of around +/- 5° and generally manage around 2° offset at most in actual use, so I would expect somewhere in the same range.
The LED flashlight is a great idea and very similar to those tiny little plastic push button jobs you might have on your keyring – it's just bright enough and perfect for those times looking through your bag or trying to get your key in the lock at night – very useful and a neat addition (it's not trying to be a military signal light or anything like that) and I like it.
So on the face of it this appears to be another digital model that might well meet the “military” style criteria as case and function wise it looks pretty good. And the strap looks good and overall the watch should be as tough as old boots. Also the addition of the Compass and flashlight is a real bonus.
But – I have reservations ?
1) IS the digital legibility, high contrast or whatever, good enough to be easily seen?
2) IS this model just too big at 50mm diameter, for my 170mm wrist?
3) IS the strap long enough (I have heard reports)? Though not a deal breaker as the strap can be easily changed.
If my reservation questions are answered satisfactorily and I can wear it without looking like a complete lemon – it has to be a consideration. So a visit to a Nixon Dealer is the only option and then we'll see (or not if the digits are faint!). The price is around £125 in the UK.
Note – The difficulty of choosing a military style watch is compounded by the fact that there are many “divers” models out there that are tough, highly Water Resistant, great readability day and night and very tough indeed, as long as you avoid the highly colored strap or dial, they too are an option worth considering.
